2023 Festival Iconography

The iconography for the 2023 Festival is based on covers and inside illustrations from vintage Sci-Fi Fantasy magazines.

  • The banner image of dueling space men is adapted from the cover of Astounding Stories, September 1931. The original artwork is by H.W. Wesso (1894 -1948).

  • A Recluse and His Guest image is adapted from the cover of Amazing Stories, July 1929. The original artwork is attributed to Hugh Mackay, possibly a pseudonym for Leo Morey (1899-1965).

  • Hotel Plays image is adapted from the cover of Science Fiction Adventures, December 1953, The original artwork is by Alex Schomburg (May 1905- 1998).

  • Killer Queens image is adapted from the cover of Weird Tales, November 1933. The original artwork is by Margaret Brundage (1900-1976).

  • The Knightly Quest image is adapted from the cover of the Secker & Warburg Paperback Publication, published January 1, 1968.

  • Stairs to the Roof image is adapted from the cover of Amazing Stories, September 1934. The original artwork is by Leo Morey (1899-1965)

  • The Eye that Saw Death image is adapted from the cover of Amazing Stories, March 1956. The original artwork is by Edward Valigursky (1926-2009).

  • The Men from the Polar Star image is adapted from the cover of Astounding Stories, October 1939. The original artwork is by Hubert Rogers (1898 -1982).

  • Weird Anthology image is adapted from the cover of Weird Tales, October 1933. The original artwork is by Margaret Brundage (1900-1976).
