TWI Deep Dives
Tennessee Williams Institute (TWI) is the Festival’s graduate-level symposium.
There are three extraordinary TWI presentations open to the public this year: Deep dives into unknown and well-known texts.
Deep Dive: The Glass Menagerie
What if all that was left of Tennessee Williams’ work over time was one person who remembered The Glass Menagerie? Tommy Heleringer takes it to its logical conclusion. Introduction and background by Festival Dramaturg Thomas Keith.
Deep Dive: The Lingering Hour
Towards the end of his life Tennessee Williams imagined himself on vacation while all the volcanoes in the world were exploding. Until 2019 we thought there were only four pages to this manuscript. Independent scholar John Keith (who is Provincetown-based) uncovered 200 pages more. Festival curator David Kaplan recognized the six episodes envisioned by Williams, excerpts of which will be read and put into context.
Deep Dive: Fin du Monde
A short so far-unpublished story by Williams set on Pearl Harbor Day. December 7, 1941 means the end of the world (the meaning of the title in French) for the free-wheeling gay and lesbian community of New Orleans’ French Quarter. Written during WWII. A reading by Texas Tech University’s Department of Theatre and Dance, put into context with an introduction and background by Thomas Mitchell.
